Cardiac surgery is broadcast via webcast in Joinville.
A video-assisted minimally invasive mitral valve repair was performed at Unimed Hospital Center in Joinville. Set to be broadcast via webcast, the procedure began at 11 a.m. after the registration of 106 computers, many of them remotely located in auditoriums of higher education institutions all over Brazil.
Simultaneously to the surgery, Dr Robinson Poffo answered questions on the chat with the help from a chat room moderator. According to Dr Poffo, although the Internet connection was a problem in some instances, the experience was well worth it and the goals of disseminating information about the technique were achieved. "It encourages other professionals to get acquainted with the method. Consequently, we allow more patients to have access to this less invasive and less traumatic surgery," ponders Dr Poffo.
Those who could not follow the live transmission of the surgery can watch it in unedited format at
